There is a society that is the wealthiest in the world, but where there are vast gaps between the rich and the poor. It is terrorized by urban crime and street gangs in some places. Its government is somewhat and seemingly hopelessly corrupt. There is no religious influence. It has an outdated educational system and is plagued by urban blight and decay, dissolute living, unstable family life, and widespread drug abuse. There is a high suicide rate, rampant divorce, and burgeoning welfare. Athletics are glorified and expensive. It has the greatest legal system in the world, a huge defense and armament industry, and imposes its system of government an foreign lands. Abortion is commonplace and the status of women there grows worse by the day. The society I am talking about is not ours. It is the Roman Society at the time of Augustus and Tiberius Caesar, and it died, it just fell apart.
